Why Stay at Wagtails?
Heather & Dai feel that our unique selling point is probably our gorgeous rural, village, seaside location and proximity to the year round dog friendly beaches at Broughton and Llanmadoc. (We are dog friendly).
Folk from all over Swansea Bay, Cardiff and further afield often take day trips to walk our National Trust Woodlands and walks around Whitford Bay to the lighthouse peninsula and Berges Island which are all right on our doorstep. Guests who stay a few days usually walk over to Rhossili Beach, Llangennith Village and Burry Holm Island, even Rhossili Village.
We are also a short walk to the Award Winning Community Villlage Shop "Siop y Bobl" and post office. There are two coffee & cake venues and a pub with excellent food in the village. You can walk or drive to 5 pubs within 5 mins. Open the front door at 1am and you will often hear the local owls hooting, or shrieking. And on clear evenings see beautiful starry skies.
We are only a 5 mins drive to the various local wedding venues of Fairyhill, Oldwalls, King Arthur and Ocean View, for which our two or three night breaks might be of interest to you. After a busy wedding take a leg-stretching beach stroll the next day.

About Wagtails Cottage
Walk to: Our Village Shop "Siop y Bobl" in 2 minutes, pub in 10 minutes, beaches in 20 minutes.
We are dog friendly (no dog limit it is at owners discretion what is manageable. We invite guests to bring dogs provided they are declared on booking.
From the doorstep you will find some of the most stunning landscape in Wales from the doorstep. Wind-swept beaches, woodlands, dunes, rocky cliff paths. Woodlands with streams and limestone valleys, and hills (Tors such as Cwm Ivy Tor, and Hill Tor, or Prissens Tor) overlooking Pembrey/Cefn Sidan across the Water due north west. Found locally are several SSSIs and Nature Reserves, much of it on National Trust Property. We have both the estuary and beaches into the open beaches one end facing towards Carmarthen Bay and beyond to Ireland, the other end (being dog legged) facing towards Pembrey Country Park and Burry Port.
Just leave your car in the drive and just enjoy the local area and walks.
External
Parking for Wagtails guests is in the drive up to the front door. Taking the side path into a paved back yard with small patio chairs and table, leading through a wooden gate into a substantial dog secure rear "Woodland" style garden. Entrance
To enter Wagtails Cottage via the solid oak "Stable-style" front door from the driveway, which leads into kitchen area. This stable door allows you to allow in some fresh air on a hot day whilst keeping your dog safe inside. Kitchen area (joins into Lounge)
A neat functional convenient kitchen including a ceramic cooking hob, slot under oven with grill, sink with drainer, and the usual basics of a toaster, microwave, kettle, tall spacious 70:30 fridge/freezer, full sized dishwasher. There are no laundry facilities. Lounge
From kitchen area (open plan) into lounge/dining area. A gorgeous reclaimed antique pine table and two cottage style beech chairs. This table offers guests the space they may need to work from home or just use a laptop, read a newspaper, play card games whatever. We increased the size of this table following guest feedback around covid where people wanted the chance to "work from home" while staying away from home for lovely beach walks. The table also obviously offers dining space as and when needed. High quality double leather sofa (metal action sofabed) One additional high back Armchair. (Guests tell us how much they love reading in this chair). Reading light located on ceiling above leather sofa (to aid reading a book). Side Lamp. Nest of three small solid oak tables. S'fast WIFI BT Broadband (password issued on arrival) 40" Panasonic SMART TV with Freeview Play, Netflix, Prime, and Apps like 'NOW' (streaming services such as netflix and amazon prime, disney, subject to customers using own account logins) Radio alarm in bedroom and in lounge with good reception.
Bedroom
Ledge and brace oak door into bedroom (double bed, oak chest of drawers, oak wardrobe, bedside table, radio with alarm, TV.
Bathroom
Leading via further oak ledge and brace door into the spacious bathroom which has a large steel/ceramic bathtub (very nice for a hot bath after a long days walk across Gower's many dunes, hills and beaches), with a mixer shower over. Wc, pedestal basin with backlit large mirror above, plenty of bathroom shelf space. The wall above the bath has big easy grip handles to aid your footing during a shower.
Heating & Hot Water
Heating is via owner's combi-boiler system. Radiators have TRVs (if it gets too warm) but it is never too cold. Constant combi hot water for bath, shower, basin and kitchen sink. Owner provides additional portable oil-heater on wheels (De Longhi type) if required. NB: Wagtails external walls have been cavity wall insulated using high quality carbon black beads. It's 'above ceiling' area is extremely well insulated too.
Included
Towels, bathmat, bed linen, toilet rolls, are all provided within the price. Obviously heating/electric is included. Whilst the cottage is no smoking - has mains smoke / fire detectors - you are welcome to smoke in the front driveway or at the rear patio or rear gardens. We offer fresh bedding for guests staying more than a week or on request.
Laundry facilities
There are unfortunately no Laundry Facilities in Wagtails Cottage itself. For bookings over a week (NB: 8 nights or more) we will include in the price two loads of laundry for you free of charge (washed and tumble dried) - using our own utility room (we live next door). Dogs
We welcome dogs and allow multiple dogs. Dogs are charged at £20 per dog, per stay. This is for any stay up to a week. There is no additional dog fee for a two week stay. It is a one off fee for any length of stay. There is a large black public litter bin on the village green barely 25 metres away from the front door in which you are allowed to dispose of 'doggy waste' bags. We never ever hear guests dogs barking. So please don't worry if your dog barks. They nearly all do. We do not tell guests where their dogs can and cannot go. It is only a small Cottage Apartment so we use common sense as fellow dog owners and say that if your dog likes to sit on the sofa with you at home, or sleep on your bed, please feel free to let him/her do it at Wagtails too. The four main stones of the geology of Gower all in one wall. Millstone grit, carboniferous limestone, old red sandstone and gower conglomerate.
Arrival and Departure times

Llanmadoc Village with Broughton Beach (top left) and Llanmadoc Beach (Top Right) separated by Hills Tor Cliffs. The caravan site on show is Whitford Bay Leisure Park. DEPOSITS
We ask for a deposit of 30% on booking (we are happy to wait for the deposit payment for 7 days after the date on which you confirm a booking).
Payment by BACS or Cheque. We unfortunately do not have facility to take credit cards.
BALANCE
The balance of 70% is due 2 calendar months prior to arrival. If the date you confirm a booking is already within two calendar months of arrival then the balance in full is payable on booking.
Example: if you book on either the 5th or 17th April for a week’s stay on 30th June then you will only need to pay a 30% deposit and then settle the balance by 30th April. But if you book on 30th April for the same 30th June stay, the full balance becomes due immediately.
CANCELLATIONS – A SIMPLE AND FAIR POLICY
By booking with us directly and not via one of the major booking systems it means that we can be more helpful than the big operators.
THE CANCELLATION POLICY
If you cancel nearer than two calendar months of arrival date our chances of re-advertising and getting a booking diminish greatly based on our long experience, so you can expect to lose your booking fee - unless we can rebook. So please consider annual travel insurance that covers you for British based holidays.
If you cancel nearer than two months of your arrival date and we do re-book your dates we will repay you 100% of whatever we receive from the replacement booking/s.
If you cancel more than 2 months prior to arrival we will refund you in full, including the deposit.
